celebrant ~ wordsmith ~ Performer
About Me
Hi, I'm Zoe - I'm a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant.
Coming from a performing, arty and slightly quirky background I endeavour to breathe new life into the wedding industry.
I currently live in Newtown, Geelong but grew up in Barwon Heads on the Bellarine. Servicing Geelong, Bellarine and The Surfcoast, I'm also partial to a drive down The Otway's. Frequenting Lorne and surrounding areas, I think it's a dreamy part of the world.
As a celebrant, I pride myself on delivering engaging and professional ceremonies. As you will say your vows at the end of our time together, I vow to you from the beginning to listen to what you want, and deliver exactly that.
For me, a wedding ceremony should be a representation of the couple marrying and not much else (that means it’s not about me showing off how funny or entertaining I am, and it’s definitely not about cliches and readings we’ve heard over and over).
My approach to celebrancy is progressive. I’m not a pompous old fuddy duddy, but more your buddy buddy (poet and all). Laid back and friendly. I can promise you that your dealings with me stress-free and relaxed. I tailor my professional relationship and dealings with my clients to suit them. I endeavour to bring calmness to you during your ceremony, and have been told I am successful at doing so.

YOUR DAY
Yep, it's your day and that's exactly what I'm here to bring out: You!
I have a knack at drawing blood from a stone. Even if you really struggle to talk about your feelings I will find a way to portray exactly how you feel about your loved one without making you feel uncomfortable.
If you're really good at expressing your feelings, I'll help you make them read succinctly. It's all about flow. Or maybe it's not! That's completely up to you.
It's my job to take your individual personalities + your relationship's story and showcase that to your "chosen ones". Your wedding day only happens once, I'm here to make sure you remember it for all the right reasons.
I want to create a killer ceremony, I want to perform it perfectly, I want you to relax and let me do the hard stuff... Most importantly, I want to make your ideas come to life.
SERVICES
Legals Only
Think - Registry Office, but, ANYWHERE in Australia…
What’s involved

Ceremony draft - I will forward you a legals only ceremony script for you to check through, you are welcome to make changes to it as you see fit.
Assistance with writing vows. This includes a getting started document and any further assistance required (I love this part of the process and won't skimp at all here).
I will take care of all legal aspects including:
A completed Notice of Intended Marriage form which must be signed and submitted to me at least one month (and up to 18 months) before the wedding.
I will witness evidence of your date & place of birth, identity and proof of end of any previous marriage.
A completed Declaration of no legal impediment to marriage.
On your wedding day I will solemnise your marriage according to the law, you and your two witnesses will then sign 3 marriage certificates which I will have prepared.
After the wedding I will register your marriage with Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria.
I supply a high quality PA sound system and microphone. I can also play your chosen music through said PA as guests await your arrival, you walk down the aisle, and/or following the ceremony.
I supply a modern stand-at signing table, designed specifically for myself and my like-minded clients.
Of course, showing up on the day - arriving before any of your guests and leaving once my duties are complete.
This option will work if:
You're wanting a friend, family member or religious person of importance to run the rest of your ceremony.
Perhaps you or your partner are great writers and wish to embellish on the script yourselves.
It is also a great option for people not wanting any fuss, or looking at eloping.
A little more
Think - A standard wedding ceremony but instead of a standard script: something COMPLETELY PERSONALISED.
What’s involved
All of the above-mentioned which is included in the Legals Only Package PLUS
A big ol’ getting to know you questionnaire

SUPPLIES
Let’s not beat around the bush here - the certificate signing, although is kind of an important aspect of the wedding ceremony, can be totally BORING.
And I dare say it’s one of those elements that add’s to the default prospective we all tend to obtain, that a wedding ceremony, in its entirety, can be a little, let’s say, monotonous.
Here’s what I’ve done, I’ve gotten my talented brother to design and create something modern, inconspicuous, transportable and most importantly stand-up for me to offer my clients (at no charge of course).
It not only means it can chill there on it’s own, dressed up or down, at the corner of your ceremony awaiting it’s important job of supporting signatures on legal documentation. But! Being stand-up, it allows for you to casually, and quickly, get in and out of there so that you can move on to the more important aspects of the wedding.
It’s a Chiayo Stageman 150watt with built-in Bluetooth, SD, & USB Player/recorder.
It’s battery ran so can literally be taken ANYWHERE, like, even to the bottom of Erskine Falls!
I bring it with me, along with a stand and a wireless microphone.
The audio is crystal clear, and trust me, it cranks.

lighting
In Victoria, the sun goes down at around 9pm on a summer night. Substantially earlier in the winter.
Imagine the vibe and aesthetics of a darker ceremony with accent lighting.
memories
If you’re lucky and it decides to rain on your wedding day, you can rest assured it will only add to the memory making.
Also, every photographer will tell you that photos are better without the sun!
why a winter wedding?
Indoor ceremony
Plan it to be indoors and there’s no need for a last minute Plan B.
Plan it for indoors, and you get great lighting, great sound (ever been to a wedding on the beach and you couldn’t hear due to wind?), perfect climate for your guests and perhaps most importantly, that romantic mood.
Colour & style
We see darker and warmer colours through florals, lighting, accessories and fashion in winter.
Fashion, baby
There is no denying, winter fashion is the best fashion.
Also, 99% of the time your groom, groomsmen, and half of your guests will be wearing suits - sweaty right? Not in winter!
Testimonials
Mal & TIM
My partner Tim and I initially booked with another celebrant however she fell pregnant and was due the date of our wedding, thus we were put in touch with Zoe and met with her several weeks later.
Over a couple of drinks in the city we laughed and chatted about ourselves and what we hoped for in a wedding. Once we began sharing our story it felt as though we were talking to an old friend, we felt completely at ease with Zoe.
Along with the usual standard relationship questions there were many that really got us thinking about who we were and what we both wanted for each other in life, it was in no way intrusive but it was something we had never publicly discussed.
This was not only a great insight to ourselves but we were comfortable talking about it with Zoe.
Following our meeting we kept in touch over email, which was incredibly easy. Zoe was always very quick to reply and respond to EVERY question I had.
She gave us information on how to piece together our vows and also made them complement each other. They were truly beautiful and I still can't read them without becoming so emosh!
It was evident from the beginning Zoe has a huge amount of passion for her profession, she listened to what we envisioned for a wedding and created the most wonderful ceremony which encapsulated our relationship and all the things that are most important to us.
She made a comment about how she gets completely submerged in a wedding, wanting to make the ceremony fun and that it's not just a job but it's wanting to change an industry.
With all the hype that surrounds the organization of a wedding I think couples forget about the type of person that marries them, it needs to be someone passionate, full of fresh ideas and someone who will listen and tailor the ceremony to your needs and reflect you as a couple.
Zoe did this for us and we are incredibly grateful she did.
I really underestimated how much planning goes into a wedding but it's such a nice feeling to put your trust in someone and know they will make the day amazing! We are incredibly thankful we were put in touch with Zoe as we had the most amazing day of our lives to which she greatly contributed to. I wish we could do it all over again!

We wanted a low key wedding, to celebrate our love and the family and home we have built. After one catch up Zoe captured this, she understood what we wanted straight away.
From suggestions of songs and helpful tips for my hubby to a breezy run through, she was simply amazing.
We got everything we wanted and more, I couldn't recommend Zoe more.

What to say about Zoe? Pretty much stop looking and just book her!
We decided on a destination wedding which meant unfortunately our elderly grandparents couldn’t make it. Because of that we decided to do the legal stuff at home, with their presence, in our backyard.
After our first meeting with Zoe and learning about her personally as well as her work as a celebrant we knew straight away that she was the perfect fit for our ‘low key, no frills’ legal ceremony. So much so that when she left we both looked each other and questioned ‘Surely we can’t ask her to come all the way to Bali as well’.
Zoe brings such warmth, love and a genuineness like we have never experienced before.
This woman has absolutely found her calling and we feel so blessed to have had her a part of our special day.

Zoe thank you so much for making our wedding happen on such short notice!
You went above and beyond to make it as perfect, special and entertaining as possible!
Can not recommend or thank you enough.

Wow. This is a person that gets you and understands you from just a few questions asked. Zoe married myself and my now beautiful wife just a few days ago and the ceremony still makes me smile like I am going through it all over again. If you give this woman free reign over your proceedings I can tell you she will not disappoint. My mate joked one night he wanted to marry us.... unfortunately for him I found someone that was willing to work with what we had.... which was not a hell of a lot haha. But we thank our lucky starrs Zoe took us up on the challenge.
We never seen the speeches or approved anything prior to the big day, we had 100% trust in her that what Zoe and our mate had produced was going to be nothing short of amazing. And my lord did they deliver. Even threw us a curve ball with my amazing daughter getting up to read a poem in front of everyone (a talent in itself to get her up there). I could go on and on about Zoe and how she connects with her clients/friends but one thing is for sure, this Celebrant Zoe Starr is 100% genuine and one heck of an individual. And your guests will have never experienced such a wedding ceremony.
Cant half tell we have a Celebrant crush can you hahaha.
Thank you Zoe Starr for one very very memorable day, we love your individuality and how you can extract the strangest emotions. Much love Scott & Steph
